It is a widely held misconception that hunger and extreme poverty* are two plagues that will always be with us. Many believe “that’s just how it is” and that “as one person, there is nothing I can do.” The cost of these misconceptions is one life every three seconds – meaning 30,000 of our fellow human beings die needlessly every day.

Just before the turn of the millennium, the United Nations studied these issues and came to the conclusion that for the first time in human history, we have the knowledge and technology that we need to completely eradicate hunger and extreme poverty from the Earth. It was a stunning epiphany…yet little has changed.

From Sundance Grand Jury Award Nominated director Daniel Karslake comes EVERY THREE SECONDS, an introspective and hopeful call for change around the issues of extreme poverty and hunger, told through a unique lens of personal exploration of hunger and fulfillment. Unlike other films that spotlight the poor and hungry in undeveloped countries, EVERY THREE SECONDS will focus on why we, as human beings, are NOT ending hunger.

EVERY THREE SECONDS tells the stories of five individuals from different generations who one day “woke up” to their personal hunger - a spiritual hunger that could never be satisfied by their scramble for success, money and material goods. In waking up to this hunger, each realized what they craved was a life of meaning. In these deeply moving stories and with the support of leading experts in the field, EVERY THREE SECONDS, explores how though through the re-examination of our own personal relationship with “hunger” and having “enough,” we can attain an environmentally sustainable, socially-just and spiritually fulfilling human presence for all.
